Instead of hiking, while searching nature out for Charlie’s month of #nature doodlewash, I took the Woody pony on a lovely ride with my good friend Alison and her warmblood horse Valour. We rode to an area of the forest called whitemoor, nr brockenhurst. On our ride we saw a group of fallow deer in amongst the heather, now I have not perfected the sketching while on horse, so I just mentally noted to self ‘ must paint one when I get home for Charlie’s month of June, doodlewash challenge ‘. The great thing about being on a horse is you can usually get quite close to the deer before they move away. We have an abundance of deer in the forest, including these fallow are red deer ( the largest) roe, Sika and muntjacs ( not originally native to the uk).
I did this little deer quickly this evening, it is only on an off cut A5 piece of watercolour paper, pretty small for me. I thought smaller would be easier with limited time, I actually found it more of a struggle, lesson learned. I used tubed WC paint that was already in my palette mainly WNewton.

Fallow deer A5 watercolour for Charlie’s #naturedoodlewash
How beautiful Rebecca I love it! ❤

The deer looks like it’s confused. You give all the animals you paint such interesting personalities, almost as if you’ve made these wild animals your children somehow. I like it!

Thank you….maybe my deer child is confused, or contemplating about Mother Nature, lol

Well it was quick for me jodi, I did him in about an hour, rather than 2-3. I didn’t stop to let bits dry, so was a little less careful where I put the paint. Sometimes it’s fun just painting for fun and ‘just because’

Thank you Charlie, unfortunately I ran out of time for painting today. Been busy getting horse reference photos, so spent ages uploading and filing them. Plus we had open farm day so lots more cow photos too. Oh and flowers, one farm I visited provides orchids for the big chain supermarkets, it was a huge set up, lovely photos shame I don’t paint flowers, I will post hopefully in the next couple of days, if people want to use them for reference…..I might even try to paint one? I just don’t enjoy unless hair is present, lol….a hairy flower?

This is such a cute little deer. Im really impressed that you painted it so quickly. My paintings always take days because I enjoy layering in oils. The total time spent on each is only a few hours though. I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award. You can check out the details on my latest post https://burntumberarts.wordpress.com/2016/06/07/more-progress-the-liebster-award/
