I guess this was more of a trial, using pastel to do a horse. I love pastel, but I usually use them in combination with watercolour, and usually hairy creatures like dogs, but this one was a large study purely in pastel. It went ok, but I think I will stick to the way I usually use pastels. I also managed to get pastel dust everywhere!

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow.
I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel,inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use.
I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

Lottie is becoming a bit of a star isn’t she? Glorious results Rebecca, as always (You’re braver than I; I can’t work with pastels because of that dust!) Love the outer lines too and the way they emphasise her movement.

Thanks Jacob, she is a young star in the making, it just happened that the photos of her were the more appealing to paint and draw, the perfect model.
