I may seem to have been quiet lately, but I have been busy trying to complete my six ongoing oil paintings. I have at last finished this hare, it has been hanging around for ages….three months! I just could not get into it, but while my large horse was drying I thought I would try engaging in some enthusiasm to get him finished.

‘Hightail it’ oil hare on canvas, photo reference with thanks from Mike Rae.

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate
My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow.
I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use.
I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.
Lots of movement here – totally!

Thank you Cynthia, certainly is a different pose to my usual hares. I feel privileged to have spoken to Mike Rae, and use his stunning photographs of hares.

When you paint your hares, are they from photos that you take in your yard? We have a few hares here …

Well, all the hare photos I had, have been painted to death, altered painted in reverse. They are not the easiest to photograph, but I have been so lucky to have spoken to a gentleman called Mike Rae, he is a professional, who specialises in hares, he has given me permission to paint from his wonderful captures of the hares. In return, for the use of his photos, when I start selling my paintings I will donate % to ovarian cancer research. It was something we both agreed, and I feel a great charity that is often overlooked. One day I may try to meet up for a photo shoot with Mike, he knows all the tricks and behaviours of the hares, it would be wonderful. Problem is having horses ( as he does too) it’s difficult to go away, they need sorting morning and night…and the cats, and dog, lol.

I agree with C, it’s like he’s racing off. This is really fab, Rebecca. ❤ It's all over his eyes too and that back leg is a blur. I hope you're really pleased with this!

Thank you Laura, another of Mike Rae’s fantastic hare photographs. I found it hard to capture the movement, but so pleased I finished it.

Rarely do my ‘put off’ pieces come out this well! So beautiful Rebecca, as always – it looks quite a tough stance to capture but you’ve done it beautifully, and indeed with a great sense of movement.

Thank you Jacob, so pleased with it in the end, but it was a hard piece to capture, and at many moments I thought I had tried too much too soon.

Thank you Snehal, I am flattered, unfortunately I decided a while back, that I would not participate in awards, mainly due to the time involved, it does however mean so much to have been nominated, especially by yourself, as I adore your beautiful work, you are a super talented lady. P.S I loved reading your questions/ answers. Very well done, you deserve it.
