My two weeks off work has arrived, and also the sunshine. I signed up today to be a guest artist for Hampshire open studios in August this year. I will have the opportunity to show some of my work for one day, for me this is kind of nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. I will need to get painting things to hopefully sell.
For my first day off, I decided to paint something close to my heart, a ginger cat. This is Oliver, a true ginger ninja, street wise, don’t mess with me sort of cat. He is a total soppy floppy cat with his human slaves, but watch it if you are feline…..or even more if you are mouse, squirel, rabbit, fish and even eel!

Oliver. Watercolour ginger cat

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate
My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow.
I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use.
I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.
Handsome Boy! And beautifully done!

Hooray, it’s a holi-holiday! 😉 Let’s hope the weather keeps up. As ever, Rebecca, you have captured all the beauty of your subject; Oliver’s eyes are bursting with character and his fur is waiting to be stroked. Swoon!

Thank you J, Oliver does love a cuddle, usually when I am in the middle of doing something, he is a v demanding cat, and when he wants, everything has to stop, or he sits on the iPad, in protest, so persistent.

Haha! Yes, my Oscar will do the same, prowling before the monitor or sitting on the mouse to be sure that my attention is undivided. Fortunately for him, I just think it’s hilarious!

Thank you Cynthia, the eyes weren’t too bad, but cats noses, grrr, they are tricky to me.

Thank you lance…working on some oil paintings now, so a much slower process, I think that way I save on having to get things framed, although I think I will do a few watercolours, not sure what of yet….probably hares!

This is stunning! How did you get the fine lines, did you add colored pencil over the wc? Wow, what an amazing piece! Ok, please don’t let me forget after 18 April to catch up on everything I missed over here. I would be so sad to miss even one of your gorgeous piece. Just precious!

Thank you Laura, Oliver is all done in watercolour only. I used a very fine brush, over previously painted and dry watercolour, done with a fan brush, it’s great to practice hair on a scrap piece of card, and change hair direction, to see how it looks. The key is many many layers.
