About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if itโ€™s hairy, I will be sure to try.

  1. Love it, Rebecca! You’ll have me trying oils yet! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

    • Now that has made me smile, I think you will love them…but be persistent as when I picked them up again for the auction paintings, I hated it, and nearly stopped, but third layer, and yippee, a fan again.

      • I’ll be divorced if I buy more art supplies now but not ruling it out lol! I’m getting in a set of soft pastels soon …. dying to try with acrylics. Have you ever tried them?

      • Do you mean like the chalk ones sennelier? I bought a few a while back…..almost to scared to use them as they were so pricey, stupid reall. So not really had a true play with them yet. I would be interested to see how you find them, it might just inspire me to try.

      • Yes. I got a set of Richeson’s after reading the reviews for the various brands and comparing prices. They are all ridiculous but when I order from Blick, I have a year to return them, no questions asked so I figured it was worth a try. I’ve been watching videos by Debora Stewart about abstraction. She wrote a book and if her work doesn’t inspire you to try abstracts, then nothing else will. You can do a search for her on YouTube and there is a video that I think is about an hour long where she talks about her approach and you’ll see her work throughout. IMO, really gorgeous stuff. I’d love to see what you think of it. Anyway, she explains in much more detail in the videos on Artist Network TV how she approaches an abstract piece, and gets into a bit of abstract realism too, which is what calls me the loudest. She starts with charcoal and then an acrylic underpainting and goes over with the soft pastels. Omg I just had to buy a set to try after watching her. I’ve wanted to for six months lol. Finally gave in. Her work is really incredible. IMO.

    • Thanks Jay, she is pleased, but really she wanted the hare….problem is I paint her a bird each Mother’s Day, and birthday, so together they should look quite cool, the hare just does not match, plus it might be in the hospice auction. They are always out photographing birds, so I have a good collection piling up for painting.
