‘Hide and Seek’ watercolour squirrel

Today I managed to finish another of my long waiting half complete paintings. This was between a Christmas pub horse ride, with some girls from the yard ( I could only drink coffee, due to the antibiotics I am on), and watching Olympia horse show on television, a must at Christmas time.

here is my squirrel watercolour, called ‘Hide and Seek’

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

  1. Beautiful job, Rebecca! Is this pure watercolor, no other medium? I’m amazed at the detail in the fur!

    • Thank you Laura, yes this one is only watercolour, I use tubes of watercolour, so the hair is many layers of alternating colours, sometimes it is used straight from the tube, ie no water added, just a damp brush. I actually struggled with this squirrel, and nearly did not bother to finish him, I think it’s because I have done so many hares, so the squirrels face didn’t come quite so naturally. I have actually overworked this in my opinion ( or at least overworked it more than I over work most of my paintings)
