Today I finished ‘Dessie’ a very sweet cob that is sadly no longer around. He is greatly missed by his owner. I was asked to paint him for a friend to be mounted onto a card, to be given as a gift. A wonderful memory of this gentle boy, who has been a pleasure to paint. I hope she likes it?
This is Dessie, I never had the chance to meet him , but hopefully I have caught some of his character in my watercolour painting. 10×7″ (mounted onto birthday card A4) 140lb coldpress watercolour paper.

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate
My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow.
I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use.
I never know what might inspire me next, but if itโs hairy, I will be sure to try.
he looks so lovely, and kind! the owner will absolutely LOVE this, Rebecca. I do ๐

Wow……a beautiful painting Rebecca! I love, love those eyes and the coloring….a non-horse person wouldn’t understand how to depict the coloring and separation of hairs and whatnot on the blaze on his face….outstanding!

Thank you so much Margaret, I really enjoyed painting Dessie, and managed to use one of my most expensive paints, DS azurite….bought it by accident, well I wanted the colour, but if I had taken note of the price I may just have removed from my basket. This is the first time I have properly used it, loved it, so pleased I made the mistake now ๐

Thank you so much, there is something quite lovely about horse noses, the gentle soft touch, warm breath, crisp grass smell, usually nuzzling for some hidden treats?

This is so beautiful, Rebecca – it’s as if Dessie is peering sweetly right out of the card and forever back into the lives of his owners. How lovely! โค

The owner (my friend) did indeed love this portrait of her beautiful boy Dessie. These were her words to me in a text … Words cannot express how precious your gift is.. I’ve stopped crying long enough to write to you… Words fail me, incredibly accuracy and exact feeling and personality captured by someone who never actually met him…
I’m so glad I got this done for her. Becky you are an extremely talented artist.
thank you so much for not only doing it but getting it done so quickly for my friends birthday!
