For this painting I had a really great idea, I was so excited, but I did not enjoy painting it one bit. I got an old page from a newspaper, the racing page, then I mounted it onto some watercolour paper 200lb using deco patch glue, I then coated in clear gesso, so the surface would accept watercolour. I have done this before, but it was for a very large A2 watercolour painting, the surface becomes quite rough, and the paint does not behave quite the same way as on a conventional surface. I think it was the surface combined with a smaller scale, detailed subject that made this an unenjoyable evening of painting….oh and my mood probably did not help! Well here it is anyway, this was ‘ an old bet’ that clearly did not win for me! On this occasion at least.π

‘An old bet’ watercolour on vintage newspaper, racing page.
Cool idea, process and result :-). Bummer that the process was unenjoyable. Do you think you’ll try a similar process in the future, maybe on a larger scale?

Yes I think I will, I might use the Daniel smith watercolour medium for comparison next time.

Still the end result is impressive even if getting there wasn’t much fun.

Yeah.. actually, this turned out perfectly and is SO creative and inspired. Love it! But… I also get what you mean in that sometimes I don’t actually enjoy the process even when the result manages to work. Which is did here. Rest assured… the race was won! π Awesome work!
