Atlas watercolour and gouache

I decided to paint a friends dog as a surprise today. Everybody needs a bit of cheering up now and then. This is her big soft, very hairy dog Atlas.

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if itโ€™s hairy, I will be sure to try.

    • Thank you Laura….I think I may just have been using the watercolour like oils! The oil paintings are still drying, so I have been doodle sketching in pencil today…may post later tonight. I must say I am impressed with the golden colours you have been experimenting with, may need a set myself?

      • They are very cool, Rebecca, I have to say I really like them. Never thought I would like plastic paint! There’s nothing like the smell of oil paint though. I don’t what it is……and I don’t know if I have room for many more art supplies lol!

    • Thank you Sharon, Atlas is a beautiful dog, and a fantastic colour, however white and black animals are the hardest for me to paint. Next challenge is to paint my black long haired cat, I have been putting it off, but I need to push myself into things I struggle with. Black for me is the worst, I bet she will end up blue!

Oh! I am in love. He’s beautiful – it’s a beautiful painting, his eyes are so friendly and caring. I’m always blown away by your work! The background really works well too. Did I mention he’s beautiful? โค

  7. Thank you Jacob, I am pleased you like the background because I did it three times, and even this one was not the shade I was aiming for, I had to quit adding a forth layer for fear it would reach a non mendable stage ( originally it was bright pink and purple, I have no idea what I was thinking) I just felt the colour dried too similar to his nose. He is a lovely dog, a great hairy bear of an Alsatian ( German shepherd).
