‘Mysterial’ watercolour and pastel

This bank holiday has been wonderful, beautiful weather, great riding, a little tidying in the garden, and some painting. Actually not as much as I would have liked.

I have a poorly cat, my gorgeous Tom, he has been having fits/ seizure episodes, so we had a trip to the vets, blood tests, huge bill, and just awaiting the results. He is such a soft adorable, cuddly cat, I hope he can have some tablets to make the seizures less, or even go away completely, he is in his older years, but is very special to us ( as all the kitties are).

Back to the painting, I have started my biggest horse yet, an artistic form of Tenor from one of my photos, I have a little more to add, but I don’t want to go over board with it like my last painting. In between paint drying I completed this watercolour and pastel dog…..I went to clean/ chrisp with this, it really needed to be roughed up a bit, so I plan for tonight’s sketching to be rough and raw….well that’s the idea at the moment?

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

Oh, what a gorgeous dog! And so loving in the eyes. Awesome work Rebecca, even if you feel you went too far, it’s really impressive detail with the media. Sending all the best to poor Tom, and indeed yourselves; I hope he can get the treatment he needs.

    • Thanks Jacob, I do hope something can be done to help him, at least make life easier…..I worry if he has a fit outside, when we are not about. He would go nuts though if shut in doors, dilemmas!

That is a dilemma. However, if he is getting older, he might be more accepting of the indoors idea than you think. My Oscar used to be outdoors patrolling all the time, but recently I started keeping him indoors and he has warmed to the idea of retirement. It’s a surprise, but I’m very pleased he’s done it as it allows me to keep more of an eye on him (he is eighteen and has also had some worrying episodes lately). See how things go, though indeed, let’s hope he can get the treatment he needs. ❤

      • Thank you Jacob, Tom is about the same age, he does not go out much, having slowed down over the last year, he prefers sleeping. He does love lying out in the sunshine though, and my problem is, I have a cat flap for them all…they would go totally nuts if locked in or out, I could not lock him in one room, if he gets stressed he tends to fit more. He probably only goes out once a day, for short periods, and they have an indoor litter tray ( much as I hate that, it is a kitty requirement, and saves my small garden which I prefer to be green and beautiful rather than full of kitty poo- sorry about that bit)

  9. I hope help can be found for your Tom, Rebecca; sending prayers and love to all of you. I think your wc and pastel combos are just brilliant! You’ve found yet another avenue and I am just loving it! Again with the composition and tremendous tonal values, great contrast, really just loving this combo, Rebecca! Beautiful work!

    • So pleased you like it Laura, this style really suits me, I find it relaxing, and gives an element of freedom, after creating an initial watercolour, I can tweak and add detail with pastel. I have done many dogs this way, so at the moment I am working on a horse with the same process ( three horses on the go, all tenor, and all different mediums, and styles).
