I have been struggling for time to paint over the last few months. Instead of getting anything finished I seem to have about 20 half complete paintings on the go. Most of those are oil, so it’s all good to go slow I guess. I am near completion of my charity auction oil painting for oakhaven hospice 20×20, so I will post that very soon, I hope it’s a hit and raises lots of money, as usual I have painted a hare….I will pop up a sneak peak now 😉. But my post for today is to feature this beautiful working cocker spaniel ‘Bronte’ owned by my friends daughter. She is a real little charmer. I have painted her in my hand made watercolour paints, with the addition of some coloured pencil.

Lovely work, Rebecca…hope the hare raises lots of funds for the charity, that’s exciting, getting a piece of work auctioned…. I have done that, once a year, several years in a row, for an orphanage in Nepal… I always find that painting something for a noble cause is highly motivating…did you? 🙂

Hi Hilda, I love doing the charity paintings, it’s great to have a good reason behind the effort, I always participate in the hospice auction, and I also do the MS society art which is a national event. Unfortunately they did not hold it last year, I hope they will do it again this year, yet to hear on that one. I adore painting but detest pricing and selling, so I don’t! Instead I accumulate far too many paintings, so these charity events take the horrid job of pricing away from me, but benefit them grateful, all a great plus. That being said I am planning to do our local open studio event this year, so hopefully I may sell a couple of paintings if I am lucky?

I absolutely agree with you about all that, especially the pricing and selling part! 😉 I made a new years resolution to try and sell my work, this year…..Basically I joined Daily Paintworks and sold 3 paintings right off the bat…but, nothing since…just enough to support a years membership….so, we shall have to see and keep trying, for now. I do wonder if going local might be a better experience and I will be very interested to hear YOUR experiences with your local studio even…. I wish you all the best with THAT!! Your work is lovely, you definitely deserve to sell some of it 🙂

Thank you, it really is a mind field out there, I belonged to artfinder, but removed myself, after no luck, they don’t puts you forward on line in the search bar categories….discovered after reading many blog post/ discussion forums, so decided to leave. I did our local open studio last year, and it was a lot of fun meeting people even if they don’t buy, I share a space/ listing with five others, so that’s nice for potential customers, art lovers to view many varieties of items at once, and hopefully encourages a bigger footfall through the door…we think? But of course still no guarantee of sale, as many people go round these events to have a nose, and use as an art gallery….as do I, but that nice too. I think if I was more open to Commision ( which I am not, due to time) then I would have benefitted a grate deal more. All in I would say go for it. 😀
