I started this painting in the new year after the local new forest hunt Boxing Day meet. I took a few nice photos of the hounds, I had planned the image I wanted to get, but there were so many people that attended the meet in support, that I really gave up trying ( I will attend a quieter meet during the season, maybe I will get lucky then)? Itching to get painting after Christmas, I started on this solitary hound. I did give up on him for a bit, then finished off this week. I plan to paint him again in a more abstract style, which I have started, so it would be a good comparison.

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate
My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow.
I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use.
I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.
Beautifully done Rebecca! I love hounds.

Thank you, me too, they are such confident big dogs, my dog is pretty scared of that 😀

Cheers Charlie, it was hard to see his eyes, infact the whole photo was a little out of focus, better luck next time I think on the photography side 😀

Incredible painting, as ever, a hound who very much appears to be dwelling on something. I love his floppy ears, and those eyes are simply astonishing!

Thank you Jacob, I think he had his own adgenda, probably looking for food, fallen from the supporters, lol

Just curious, what kind of brushes do you generally use to do your paintings?

I use a round brush size 10, rigger and a brush I cut up for hair, it’s a stiff old brush, which I cut into, it works great, similar result to a rake or fan, but more random look as I made myself. I also use a mop squirrel hair, and sometimes a small 2 for eyes, but generally the round 10 is good enough as it goes to a good point, I think the hand made brush is my fav for animals though 😀
