‘The lady in a turban’ watercolour

For Todays painting I knew exactly the sort of pose I was looking for ( unusual for me) having watched the film ‘ the girl with the pearl earring’ AGAIN!  I was on the hunt for a lady wearing a turban. I went straight to Sktchy, and typed turban into the search bar, after about 10 minutes I found the photo that was just the sort of thing I was looking for. I wanted to give the painting a more aged, vintage look, not a problem with the number of Browns I use with my furry creatures. I do love working in Browns, 😀. I was really happy with this, the only thing my head is debating about is, should I make the background dark? I kind of wish I had, and I still could, but I could also ruin it in the process, feeling torn, grrr. I might re visit this painting and start afresh, as I would also like to paint her on some old paper, or maybe find another image to do this with? Who knows tomorrow is another day for a different challenge.

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

  1. hmmm I love the browns but wondering if you were to bring in a dark background, she wouldn’t pop? unless…..you did a rich darkish brown blue? ha! it will be fun to see what you’ll do next. It is quite impressive, more like brilliant! love it!

    • I think that is my worry, I have hit the point where it could look better, but?? Hmmmm, yes, the problem is I am not great at starting afresh with the same picture, I just loose motivation, it’s like going on a ghost train for a second time, it’s not exciting and you feel safe, but it just isn’t as enjoyable…you sit back and stop letting your senses look at the detail. The experience becomes imperfect. Gosh it must be nearing Halloween? Autumn! ………well I love the idea of a blue black, if I do revisit, I will try this for sure

A beautiful job on her, especially the eyes. That’s the worse part of painting, when to stop. Put it away for a few days and then have a look and decide.

This is just stunning, Rebecca! I know this background/no background dilemma; I really like it as is, it has a light and delicacy to it, but there is a curiosity there. Look forward to seeing what decision you make!
