After having a tidy up in the garden, I decided that the leaves I was about to bin could be put to some good use. The fern painting was created by pressing it through my die cutter onto watercolour paper, I then added watercolour paint in a variety of colours. It was very cheap watercolour paper, and I had forgotten how much difference decent paper makes, the colour was nearly ready for mud, but it was so much fun…I may try something similar with some decent paper soon. The second was leaves from a black current bush ( smelt lovely) this time I coated the vein side of the leaf with watercolour paint, then pressed onto the paper, like a stamp, I then added some colours to the leaves, this was a better quality paper, so took the paint more efficiently. A huge amount of fun with paint and gardening today.

I agree….very dreamy and the fact that you used Saunders for the second one….wow….perfect paper choice for this style and subject. What is very impressive is that you had a light touch and didn’t kill with over handiness, if that is the term.

Decent paper did make a difference, I would like to play around maybe using wax resist next time, it is like paint play time, so much messy fun, and my garden scan easily spare a few leaves, it’s like a jungle this year, plants have gone mad!

oh I wished my plants have gone mad! hard when we live in a hot and dry climate in a forever drought. Will you be doing more of this kind of experimentation/play time? so cool…..I might think about doing something that reflects my environment and my style….hmm.

Oh yes you must do that, I found it enjoyable using natural items as my tools rather than a brush!

I think that I’ll wait till the fall weather starts in when we get these awesome colors and moss everywhere, yep…..that is a plan! I am very excited to see what I can come up with. 😉 I’ll make a note of it because I already have some plans in the making for fall and winter.

you kidding? hehe I think I need one of those tacky boards to put all my notes and reminders and my encouragements! I need lots of those!

My tacky board is full, now post its on the front door, and on my art desk…which inside fly I can’t use as it is stuffed with stuff on it, so I now have a collapsible table to paint on, real stuff, and head full of stuff! He he

He he, it does make up so much nonsense this auto correct, I suffer constantly from its speculations of sentence!

Oh yes do try this Jodi, so many ways, wax resist ( I have yet to try) leaf as a stamp, leaf press, if you have a die cutter, it’s easy! You can even bundle the between watercolour paper and boil them, it looks great, just time consuming, check out boiled books web site, I tried it and added fabric dye to the pot, it really works!
