‘Tenor’ Andalusian watercolour

After a chance email from my friend ( and Tenor’ human) I felt inspired to paint him in watercolour, I have painted this one in oil before, but as I am quite into watercolour at the moment I thought I would give it a go and re visit the same picture.

Initially I wasn’t planning to paint this evening, as my head was blank of anything I might feel a pull toward painting, instead I was sat watching the olympics gymnastics….they are so good. Anyhow after receiving Melissa’s email a painting urge came over me, being suddenly inspired, by her Andalusian steed.

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel,inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

      Thank you Charlie, I am pretty stunned with this transformation myself…I even have £90 Daniel smith in my SAA basket, can’t actually afford to check it out, but leaving them there I will remember the colours that will be useful to me….they are quite expensive, so the package will still fit through the letter box, so little to show for so much money, but, a little goes a long way with DS tubes, and of course the tones are next to none, I love his paint ❤️

        Wow… that’s cool! And too funny… I do the same thing with my shopping basket. Have to be careful when checking out sometimes! hehe… but that sounds cool! I want to try Daniel Smith paints since everyone raves about them. Just haven’t justified the cost yet since I have plenty of paint already! 😊

        Yes they are expensive, I started by buying a couple of colours which I knew I would use, and I had nothing similar….then a few more, I love them all so I would like to expand on the five I have, they get lonely you know!

    Well, yay for inspirations – I think the delicacy of this one does indeed play to the letter-perfect skill of those gymnasts! How wonderful. Be sure to watch the dressage, who knows what that might inspire? 😉

      Thank you Snehal, White animals closely follow black ones in difficulty, at least it is easier to see the contours and bone structure in white haired creatures, but harder to show vibrancy on paper, although I find the black animals harder, when it works I prefer the finished results to the whites…..more practice I guess 😀

        I know animals and human figures are always difficult to me specifically their bone structure so I prefer flowers and birds most of the time 😉😀 your color study is too strong! 👍🏼

        I totally agree about people, I was practicing them last night, using a loose multi coloured technique, kind of helped, as bits left out added to the effect 😀……you are perfection at flowers, what about trying a persons face loose style with flowers all in the hair, your stunning flowers would take the emphasis away from the face itself ?
