My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow.
I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel,inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use.
I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

I understand what you mean about the lower half and the upper half being different but it’s kind of like an ombre effect, tapering off, don’t you think? Another lovely horse from you, dear Rebecca. You are quite a pro at horse portraits!

Thank you Cynthia, ombré, now that would have been a great title….over worked the top half, I think being so small, I struggle with getting in the facial detail in the horse head, which is important to distinguish, and is important in the form of the horse, to get it all in I really over did it, should be a more Suttle look 😀

I am trying to work more with one stroke to define a point … and let the wash fill the area in that stroke to create the shadow … so I can relate.

Yes, it is tough, I am trying to train my brain this way, just using those important brush strokes 😀

It’s hard not to try to correct mistakes too. That’s the Chinese brush way of painting … to just be in the flow

Cheers Teri, it’s all good practice 😀 I think I may do a cow soon, I was out in the forest with the camera photographing the wild ponies yesterday, and between the two herds I found, were many white cattle, ( not sure of the breed of the white ones) and the highland cattle, I just had to photograph them too 😀

Thank you Snehal, mainly WNewton, but the Tarmac by terry Harrison is a big fav of mine, not sure if it is exclusive to SAA in the uk, as many people have not heard of it? Also I have D smith, but not used in this one, this is my standard four colours, Tarmac, sepia, yellow ocre, burnt sienna, and my trusty dr ph Martin bleed proof white 😀

Honestly I really love the way the horse fades back into the paper as though he is springing to life elsewhere, it makes them unique, I like just the partial hoof in the front and they all fade to the back, was that in yesterday’s or maybe the day before but it looks good!

I can’t remember either, I posted at the same time as I was at the mid night point, I had painted two during the day while waiting for the doctor to call me back, it was a long wait so I managed to paint one, forgot to post it, then started another in the evening 😀

Looks great – I like the well defined head and then a little bit less in the hoof department. Works well.
