Day 17 of worldwatercolormonth, and it’s a better day for painting. Pheww! I decided to use one on my backgrounds which I had created see day #16worldwatercolormonth. Please meet ‘Alice’ she is a very inquisitive and thoughtful young hare. A delight to paint. I did something different with this watercolour, I used a scratching technique for the whiskers. I usually use a sword liner or rigger, but after watching a you tube demo, I thought I would try this as an alternative, it seems to have worked ok, but you do need to be careful not tho rip into the watercolour paper. Thanks jodi, this dylon stuff is fantastic….or of course brusho, the official stuff, and amazingly the watercolour covered fine…not sure if it will over the darker backgrounds I created, those to follow when I decided what to create 😀

Love your rabbit…..and that full on inquisitive look. With the scratching, what did you use? it turned out well….scary in a way, right?

It was scary Margaret, but I was happy enough that I will use again from time to time, I also think it could be less of a problem on heavier weight watercolour paper, this was 200lb and worked fine, I don’t think I would do this on my 140lb blocks, but I have heavier paper I can also try it on. Regards to the tool, I only had a v sharpe pen knife, but I found the best was one of those tools you get with kids scratch art boards, you know those black things with a printed design that children ( oh and adults) love to scratch back to the White, it seemed just right to me. The motion I used was not digging in but gently back and forth to expose the White…..it did sometimes scratch more than I wanted, but it did not rein it on this occasion.

I am glad you like the name, it usually jumps straight at me with the hares…it’s the horses I have more trouble naming.
