For today’s post, day 7 of world watercolour month, I decided to step away from furry creatures, this post is not cuddly, in fact you might get slimed, although that sounds horrid, they are really quite beautiful, their very own house, which they effortlessly carry around comes in some stunning colours, and styles. Home for the snail, really is where the heart is.
Despite their beauty, I find them a pest, this year I seem to be over run with them in my garden, they seem to be breeding like crazy, then munching on my plants. If they aren’t breeding they are inviting the neighbouring snails over for the party. I don’t want to slate them too much as they make a great meal for the hedgehogs ( and some humans, but I guess not the garden snail variety).

Rebecca, this is great… love how the shell is so beautiful! they are pests. Did anyone know, they actually make noises?! when they crawl up windows at night… in the silence, you can hear their strange calls. (mating sounds, I think!) It really weirded me out, it was so loud!

darn things scared me! 3 nights in a row! thought “Something” was trying to get in my window. yeah…. bloody snails on a wet night. next to my bed. just dandy.

You did a wonderful job with this Rebecca! Especially how you got that texture in the body, how did you do that by the way? I need to know!

Thank you….the slimy bit was done wet in wet, then when half /semi dry I dotted in some darker bits, and a few lighter bits, it was then dragged a little with a dry brush so the marks kind of blended in, I actually re wetted and did this a few times, also a few fine lines were done higher up on his body, with the same technique, dry brush after wet in wet. I do like multiple layers.

I read one time that snails don’t like to move on sand so they stay away. Good luck!

I am going to the beach to dig for sand…….not really, I think I would get a telling off, but I think the local quarry sells bagged sand 😀

Love the title! You certainly captured their quirky charm and the shell is glorious. As a child I was always the one sticking up for the snails, but then I suppose I wasn’t the one having to care for the garden!

Hahaha, totally, with placards and everything! Nah, not quite, but I did used to tell mummy off when she threw them into the road. She should have just put them in next door’s garden!

Lovely snail I love it! I also like the writing and …lol reading at Debi comments they are noisy? I see lots of them here but I never heard a sound 😀 ok now I know in case of strange noises! lol
