No nature hike, a nature ride across the new forest

Instead of hiking, while searching  nature out for Charlie’s month of #nature doodlewash, I took the Woody pony on a lovely ride with my good friend Alison and her warmblood horse Valour. We rode to an area of the forest called whitemoor, nr brockenhurst. On our ride we saw a group of fallow deer in amongst the heather, now I have not perfected the sketching while on horse, so I just mentally noted to self ‘ must paint one when I get home for Charlie’s month of June, doodlewash challenge ‘. The great thing about being on a horse is you can usually get quite close to the deer before they move away. We have an abundance of deer in the forest, including these fallow are red deer ( the largest) roe, Sika and muntjacs ( not originally native to the uk).

I did this little deer quickly this evening, it is only on an off cut A5 piece of watercolour paper, pretty small for me. I thought smaller would be easier with limited time, I actually found it more of a struggle, lesson learned. I used tubed WC paint that was already in my palette mainly WNewton.

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

The deer looks like it’s confused. You give all the animals you paint such interesting personalities, almost as if you’ve made these wild animals your children somehow. I like it!

This is such a cute little deer. Im really impressed that you painted it so quickly. My paintings always take days because I enjoy layering in oils. The total time spent on each is only a few hours though. I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award. You can check out the details on my latest post https://burntumberarts.wordpress.com/2016/06/07/more-progress-the-liebster-award/
