Artgraf and pastel horse

my Artgraf water soluble graphite blocks arrived, I could not resist a quick play. I combined with pastel once the WC paper was dry. I plan to paint this in oil soon ( although I am known to change my mind) although it was a play with my graphite blocks, it was also an opportunity to get a feel for how this one could look, extra large on canvas? We shall see. This is approx A3 Langton WC block.

I really enjoyed these blocks, they are so creamy, and very water soluble, I need to test them out a little more, so far so good, pleased I have them, and I would like to try them on a large scale horse painting soon, and use more like a charcoal.

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

    • I find them the most relaxing therapeutic ….little to pack away, and quite quick results, although on this occasion they came out to enhance the graphite blocks.

    • Jodi – is this because of Debora Stewart?! Isn’t she amazing? Or totally unrelated lol. She is freaking amazing.

      • Right?! I mean, she is like some abstract guru!! Seriously. I honestly actually bought a set of pastels JUST because of her videos. I tried them and of course, it turned out badly (I posted it I think in February) but she makes it look SO freaking easy! She is seriously amazing. And I wonder if I ever did the whole thing like she does with the acrylic underpainting and the charcoal drawing and then the pastel ground and actually tried it whole-hog…..I just wonder how it would turn out. She gets such depth in her work and she is a color genius. In one of the videos she actually says she used to have problems with color. Is that amazing?! She looks like a stone-cold natural to me. Anyway, I’m contemplating returning the pastels but I do want to try a whole-hog painting first and see. She only makes it look easy but it’s not even close. She’s awesome.
