While waiting for paint to dry- ‘ candy crush’

I have six oil paintings in progress, all at different stages in their layers, but all drying for a day or two…whilst exploring for spare canvases in my art cupboard ( my downstairs toilet…which is not usable as a loo, due to the storage it provides)I found a canvas I had covered in Daniel smith medium for watercolour. That will do me while the paint dries. I quickly visited paint my photo for some inspiration, and found this gorgeous cow. The Daniel smith medium worked well, but the application of watercolour, is a little different to conventional paper in the way it behaves, as it is very porous. Still it was fun. The background was created with salt, always great fun to throw on some salt, again not quite the usual effect due to the porous nature of the medium, good enough for me.

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

    • Thank you Cynthia….just been told by my daughter this morning, that Candy Crush is a stupid name for a cow, lol. That’s me told! I was asked ‘how does that relate to a cow’?
I had to explain my thinking, candy for the background, crush from the crusha milkshakes…….teenagers! Not everything relates to computer games and apps.🙄

    • Thank you Charlie, my daughter has just pointed out some pencil marks under the background, from my initial sketch. Unfortunately I discovered pencil will not rub off the watercolour medium, most of my initial sketch marks are covered with the cow, but this one is there for all to see….I don’t think it shows in the photo though, so I will pretend it’s not really there……cows are just great for expression, love them

  9. Brilliant thanks…..good to know I’m not the only one who has graphite under tones, in the wrong places…not sure how it can be avoided, unless no sketch?
