‘Serval’ cat ink, watercolour and pen

This is my Serval cat portrait, finished tonight. I guess it is mixed media, as it began as a pure ink portrait, with gesture brush strokes, I wish I had taken a photo at that point, I really liked it, and that was how I had planned to leave it, however yesterday night, I thought I should touch up a few bits with watercolour. Thinking a few brighter spots would enhance it, and of course the eyes needed watercolour. So last night I left it drying on the side, but alas on arriving home from work, I felt it needed some more alterations and additions, mmmm what to use this time, I looked at the pro marker pens, NO! But then peeping in the pen slot, were two very old Montana pens ( about five years old) would they still work? I washed the nibs under the tap, and hey presto, like new, so just to prove they worked, I went like made scribbling marks on the pretty kitty. So here he is my ‘Serval’ and a great review of longevity for the Montana marker pens, (black and white).

About REcreate-RebeccaEvansCreate

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow. I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel, inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use. I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

  4. Pleased you think he is lovely, my little tweaks did become great big over the top pen marks, but it kinda works, just a different style, I might try it with a hare?
