I had some more time today to experiment with brusho powder pigment, deciding to play it safe I stuck with using them as backgrounds for the moment. The rest of the horse is with WN Indian ink, and a little watercolour.

My name is Rebecca Evans, living in the New Forest I have been inspired to paint the many animals often seen around me. Having ridden since Childhood, painting equines was a natural path to follow.
I use a variety of media, watercolour, oil, charcoal, pastel,inks, plus a few more, infact I will try most things. Choosing the medium to work with can really change the effect of the art, and therefore the character of the animal. Sometimes it is an instant decision, sometimes it is the mood from within me which determines which medium I choose to use.
I never know what might inspire me next, but if it’s hairy, I will be sure to try.

Thank you lance, I am still at the experimentation stage, discovering the capabilities, and abilities of it working with other products. So far a tick for Indian ink ( my fav of the moment, so most things are a bit on the dark side).

A stunning horse! I find them SO difficult but you’ve completely nailed it – and the experimental background is lovely. Great colour and impact.

Thank you Jacob, you are right they are one of the awkward animals to paint.I don’t always get it right, and I really struggle with whole body, trying to practice though, every time I get it wrong I feel demoralised. I have been drawing, painting horse heads since 1993, mainly portraits of friends horses, so lots of practice. ( I find cats much harder to paint draw, owning 5 you would think I should have nailed it by now)!

I love brusho, it is vibrant and very versatile. It is however, rather annoying when adding new layers as it is not fast but bleeds across wet patches.

Ahh, thank you, now that explains why my figure went so wrong when I worked it too much, I am just sticking to backgrounds for the moment, but I do love the effects they give.
