this spring/ summer, I have been privileged to see a number of bee swarms, with the abundance of flowers and warm weather, it seems to have affected many areas on the south coast of England, the busy little insects even made it in the papers and local news….for some people they caused chaos, for others it was a once in a life time sight. My encounter was due to three bee hives situated at then yard my horses are kept at, so I was fortunate, in that there is lots of open space and they were not a problem…..Unless you are the owner of the bees, and they don’t get caught! By all accounts when they up sticks and leave, their equivalent of packing a suitcase is to take all the honey, while looking for a new home.
so here is my second honey bee study, I feel happier about this one, it was a better photograph I used as reference, and I didn’t use as much of the neocolor, which I find hard to get detail with. I also love the way she is in flight. I really enjoyed painting this one.
items used
watercolour,
some caran dache neocolor( but not as much as the last bee,due to it being difficult to keep detail)
and black fine liner pen

That is so cool – great detail and pose!

Thank you, it actually did not feel too detailed to paint, compared to the last bee I attempted, but I am pleased that it looks detailed.
